We aim to create an engaging and safe space for our women to work. At our center in Patan, our five full-time artisans share knowledge and experience, all while knitting and crocheting your products.

Working From Home

We understand the rigor and commitment of being a mother and a matriarch, so not all of our women work at the center. We are happy to employ 30 part-time home workers in Patan and Bhaktapur.

Why is the work environment so important?

Working conditions in Nepal are largely unregulated. The spaces can be unclean, cramped, and at times dangerous to the worker’s health and well-being. Our center serves as a standard for better working conditions going forward. We cultivate a spacious and safe space where the women can gather to work.

In general, women carry a lot of responsibilities providing for their families from the very dawn to the end of the night. So we believe it is important to take time out of the day for the women to focus on themselves to heal and harness their true powers and inner strength.

Since our work requires us to stay in one position to knit and crochet, it is necessary to relieve our bodies of any built-up muscle tension. At Aatmiya we practice and encourage restorative yoga stretches in between work hours, not only for our in-house knitters but also for our home-based knitters to ensure a nurturing and balanced work environment.
