Chandra is an independent thirty-year-old single mother with the most beautiful and contagious smile. Though she never received any formal knitting training, she has been perfecting the art of knitting since childhood.
She learned her craft by watching her mother and by receiving outsourced knitting jobs in her community. She joined Aatmiya seven years ago and now works as a Supervisor at our Bhaktapur center.
When she came to us she was trying to secure a scholarship for her son’s education. Not only did she help her son receive a scholarship, but she also secured a job at the women’s center for her knitting skills. In the future, Chandra would like to open her own knitting and training center where she can employ and empower women from her community.
She enjoys singing hymns on the radio during the knitting sessions which always brings happiness and smiles to the other didis.
